The Class of 2007 scholarship recipients of The Community Foundation of the New River Valley reflected the enthusiasm and commitment which has been directed to this program by board members and donors alike.

The foundation now has a growing and vibrant scholarship committee under the leadership of Board Member Jessica Wirgau. Along with several board members the committee includes nine scholarship advisors: Jeanne Allen, Eastern Montgomery High School guidance counselor; Brenda Bishop, Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS); Jayanne Bridges, MCPS; Belva Collins, retired principal; Peggy Eaton, school volunteer and scholarship fund adviser for T. Scott Eaton Fund; Ginny Gardner, Floyd County High School guidance counselor; Marilyn and David Hutchins, Wings Fund advisers; and Dreama Meadows, fund adviser for the A. Phillip Meadows Scholarship Fund.

CFNRV has been blessed with a number of generous donors interested in funding scholarships. This allowed us to make distributions from nine scholarship funds this year with total of $16,360 serving 16 students.

The foundation now has a catalogue of scholarship funds and is working towards developing networks of support for scholarship winners which will allow them to take full advantage of their educational opportunities.
